Self portrait 2008 10 05- drawn from life in 1hour 30mins (including cleaning time- although as it appears now it is dirtier than when I had just finished it).
Done as homework for life drawing at 191 pearse street, Dublin (on the parameter of trinity college).
For those of you that are interested, life drawing classes started up again last week- tuesdays are taught by a lecturer from NCAD- who is taking the same approach he takes in NCAD- this means a very structured class with assesments and homework. It was actually a nice change in someways- although we did not do any quick poses and I miss that to some extent. Thursdays however
Yes, im sorry for those of you who wish I had made a crazy fragmented portrait here... I really should do one, so maybe another day... maybe ill even cut this up to make it!
Other random stuffs- I had a rather bad cold that day- thus the scarf.
Thank you! hahaha, though just curious have you ever seen me in person? I have a feeling that you might have been there that one evening I bumped into eirtakon people in chapters- but i wouldnt have had the chance to find out seen as I was with family and didnt really get to socialise. Are you meeting up with those people now?
ah thanks- most my time had to be spent on my hair though- which was time consuming- it the face is lacking in definition- but it was to be chiaroscuro so large contrast was acceptable.
I used to do far better in the same time limit when I worked as a portrait artist- but I suppose a self portrait from life is more difficult for a variety of reasons.
Lovely work. Downward facing position is always difficult but you knew how to deal with it. :3
Few things though. The hair is lovely - but there seems to be too much hair on the left side, making the whole thing seem a little square. Also, it would be worth putting more hair on the top next time, as it gives more of an illusion that your face is pointing downwards.
aside from that.... i'd probably cover that eye a little more with the eyebrow and have it smaller! :3
I find a handy trick. get yer original drawing, stick it up to the light and look at it backwards. that forces you to look at it from a different perspective, immediately making you notice your mistakes :3
